
Gran Teatre del Liceu Announces Next Artistic Director
By David SalazarThe Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced that Víctor García de Gomar will be its next artistic director.
Per a press release, he was selected from among 15 other candidates for the major position. He will commence his work in the position at the start of the 2019-20 season, with the intention of creating a smooth transition from the current occupant of the role, Christina Scheppelmann.
“The jury of experts was impressed by Garcia de Gomar’s experience working at music venues, especially the Palau de la Música, where he has been able to gain knowledge and establish a very wide network of international relations in the music and opera industries,” said the press release on the company’s official website.
García de Gomar is a former law student and has worked in several management positions. He also has a background in music and also published a book “Y tú, qué escuchas?”
The company’s current season continues with productions of “Madama Butterfly” and “L’Enigma Di Lea.”
