Gran Teatre del Liceu Announces New Streaming Platform

By Francisco Salazar

The Gran Teatre del Liceu will celebrate its 175th anniversary with the launch of Liceu+ LIVE during the 2022-23 season.

The new digital platform will allow viewers to see operas from the season live or in a special edited version after the live stream.

The first season will showcase five operas presented through 2022-23 including “Il trovatore,” “Il trittico,” “Tosca,” “Macbeth,” and “Manon.”

According to the Liceu, the project is a way to expand the accessibility of the opera without the price and territory barriers that it may sometimes have. The company is also interested in bringing its production to a more international level.

Liceu+ LIVE will be recorded with 7 4K cameras, and Dolby 5.1 sound. Each transmission will have a host, a live chat and the options of subtitles in Catalan, English, or the original language of the opera.
