Gran Teatre del Liceu Announces New Choral Director

The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced that Pablo Assante will be the company’s new choral director.

Assante, who hails from Argentina, studied choral and orchestral conducting at the Universidad Católica Argentina, followed by studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under Denis Rossell, Jorge Rotter, and karl Kamper.

He has been the Choral Director at the Semperoper in Dresden and the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, among many others. He has also worked with such organizations as the Teatro dell’Opera y l’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, and the Bayerische Staatsoper. He has also collaborated alongside such conductors as Kurt Masur, George Prêtre, Sir Colin Davis, Christian Thielemann, Fabio Luisi, and Kiril Petrenko.

Assante will take over for Conixta García who will now work alongside music director Josep Pons. García was appointed the resident director of the Chorus back in 2015.
