The Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The company announced that tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz will sing the role of Alfredo on Dec. 20, 22, 27, and 29 replacing Pavol Breslik who is currently recovering from laryngitis.

Chacón-Cruz is currently in rehearsals for a revival production of Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” at the Liceu, which opens in January. The tenor recently sang “Luisa Miller” in Barcelona during the 2018-19 season and this season is set to perform the role of Oronte in “I Lombardi” at the Opera de Monte Carlo.

Chacón-Cruz joins sopranos Lisette Oropesa and Kristina Mkhitaryan in the production with baritones George Gagnidze and Àngel Òdena.

Breslik is expected to return to the role of Alfredo on Dec. 29.

Speranza Scapucci conducts Sir. David McVicar’s production, which runs through  Dec. 30.
