The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its production of “Turandot.”

The company said that due to muscle problems, Nadine Sierra has been forced to cancel her participation as Liù as she will require treatment during the performance dates.

As a result, Sierra will be replaced by Vannina Santoni and Adriana González. Santoni will perform on Nov. 26 and 29 as well as on Dec. 3, 5, 11, and 14. Gonzalez will perform on Nov. 30 and Dec. 4 and 9, 2023. They will alternate with Marta Mathéu and Maria Agresta, who were already previously announced.

“Turandot” is set to open on Nov. 26 and will run through Dec. 16. Elena Pankratova and Ekaterina Semenchuk star in the title role.

Sierra is currently performing “Roméo et Juliette” at the Bilbao Opera. The Gounod work runs through October 30, 2023.
