Gran Teatre del Liceu Announces Cast Change for ‘Manon’

By Francisco Salazar

The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its production of Masenet’s “Manon.”

The company said that tenor Michael Fabiano will sing the role of chevalier Des Grieux replacing Javier Camarena, who will not make his role debut this season.

The company added that Camarena believed that his voice would evolve in a different direction but unfortunately did not and therefore decided not to debut the role.

Fabiano has performed the role of Des Grieux to great acclaim at the Metropolitan Opera and the San Francisco Opera. He is set to join Nadine Sierra, who sings the title role, Alexandre Duhamel, and Laurent Naouri. Olivier Py directs and Marc Minkowski conducts.

“Manon” opens on April 20 and will also star Amina Edris and Pene Pati.
