Gran Teatre del Liceu Announces Cast Change for ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’

By Francisco Salazar

The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” for the July 21 performance.

The Spanish theater announced that Serena Sáenz will sing the title role in Donizetti’s masterwork replacing Nadine Sierra, who will not be able to sing due to a medical condition.

Sáenz will make a double debut as she will be singing her first Lucia and making her house debut at the Gran Teatre.

The Spanish soprano is a member of the Staatsoper Berlin International Opera Studio and is set to make house debuts at the Opera de Sabadell, Ópera de Oviedo, and Opéra national de Montpellier. She has won prizes at the Viñas International Singing Contest, International Gesangswettbewerb ‘Ferruccio Tagliavini,’ and the Concours International de Chant.

Sáenz joins a cast that includes Javier Camarena, Alfredo Daza, and Mirco Palazzi. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts the new production by Barbara Wysocka.

Sierra is set to return for the July 24 performance.
