The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its performance of Monteverdi’s “L’Incoronazione di Poppea” on July 19, 2023.

The company said that tenor Mark Milhofer is suffering from aphonia and will not be able to sing at the performance. However, he will act the role on stage while Marcel Beekman will sing the role of Arnalta.

Beekman will also sing the role of Nutrice, which he has been performing since opening night.

“L’Incoronazione di Poppea” opened on July 10 and is set to run through July 21. The cast also includes David Hansen, Xavier Sabata, Nahuel di Pierro, Magdalena Kožená, Julie Fuchs, and Deanna Breiwick.
