Gran Teatre del Liceu Announces Cast Change for ‘Carmen’

The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its production of “Carmen.”

The company said that for the Jan. 3 performance (Liceu Under35) and next Sunday, Jan. 7, the titular role will be played by the mezzo Rinat Shaham. She will replace Varduhi Abrahamyan who is indisposed.

Shaham is a mezzo who has performed in Vienna, Rome, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Moscow, New York, Vancouver, and Lisbon, among others. She is known for her interpretation of “Carmen” as well as Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni,” Preziosilla in “La Forza del Destino,” and Cherubino in “Le Nozze di Figaro.”

Shaham is set to join a cast that includes Leonardo Capalbo, Eric Greene, and Jeanine De Bique. Josep Pons conducts the production by Calixto Bieito.
