Gran Teatre del Liceu Announces Cast Change for 175th Anniversary Gala

By Francisco Salazar

The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its 175th-anniversary gala.

The company noted that Michael Fabiano will take over for Joseph Calleja in a scene from “Macbeth” and “Turandot” and Airam Hernandez will sing the portion from “Lucia di Lammermoor.”

Fabiano recently performed at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in a production of “Turandot” and is set to make his Washington National Opera debut in “Carmen” while Hernandez sang the European premiere of “Florencia en el Amazonas.”

Both tenors join an all-star lineup that is headlined by Lisette Oropesa, Ludovic Tezier, and Sondra Radvanovsky.

The gala performance is set to be held on April 3 and will include scenes from “Turandot,” “Macbeth,” and “Lucia di Lammermoor.”

UPDATE: Sondra Radvanovsky will also sing the role of Turandot replacing Irene Theorin, who has withdrawn.
