The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its production of “La Traviata.”
The company announced that George Gagnidze will take over the role of Giorgio Germont replacing Artur Ruciński, who has had to cancel due to personal reasons.
Gagnidze, who is well known for his Verdi roles, has performed the role of Germont at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera de Paris, Teatro alla Scala, and Arena di Verona, among others.
This is the latest cast change for the Liceu’s “La Traviata” following the cancelation of Rosa Feola, who is set to be replaced by Lisette Oropesa and Pretty Yende.
“La Traviata” is also set to star Kristina Mkhitaryan as Violetta Pavol Breslik and Dmitry Korchak as Alfredo Germont and Angel Òdena, and Giovanni Meoni as Giorgio Germont.
The opera opens on Dec. 5 and runs through 30, 2020.
