
Grammy-Nominated Baritone Jubilant Sykes Fatally Stabbed

Grammy-nominated baritone Jubilant Sykes was fatally stabbed at his home in Santa Monica, California, on Monday evening. He was 71.
According to a statement from the Santa Monica Police Department, officers responded to a report of an assault in progress at the Sykes residence, where they found the singer with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Per reports, Authorities identified the alleged assailant as his son, 31-year-old Micah Sykes, who was taken into custody inside the home without incident and has been booked on suspicion of homicide. A weapon was recovered and is currently being processed along with other physical evidence.
Raised in Los Angeles, Skyes was nominated for a Grammy as part of the 2009 recording of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass with Morgan State University Choir and the Baltimore Symphony under Marin Alsop. He performed around the world with such organizations as Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, London’s Barbican Centre, the Apollo Theater, Hollywood Bowl, New Orleans Jazz Festival.
