The Glyndebourne Festival has announced a cast change for its production of “Dialogues des Carmélites.”

The company said Danielle de Niese has withdrawn from Glyndebourne Festival’s 2023 production. As a result, Sally Matthews will take over the role of Blanche, returning to Glyndebourne after several successful engagements.

Matthews is recognized as one of the foremost lyric sopranos of her generation and recently performed at La Monnaie in a production of “Eugene Onegin.” She also recently debuted as The Marschallin in a new production of “Der Rosenkavalier” at La Monnaie in Brussels. Her previous performances at the Glyndebourne Festival include the role of Countess Almaviva in “Le nozze di Figaro,” Konstanze in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” and the title role in “Rusalka.”

Matthews joins a cast that includes Katarina Dalayman, Florie Valiquette, Karen Cargill, Golda Schultz, and Fiona Kimm.

“Dialogues des Carmélites” will be performed at Glyndebourne Festival 2023 between June 10 and July 29, 2023.
