Glyndebourne Announces 2025 Jerwood Young Artists

Glyndebourne has announced the five singers selected for its 2025 Jerwood Young Artists programme.

The singers includes soprano Mariana Fernandes, mezzo-soprano Rachel Roper, tenor Matthew McKinney, bass-baritone Charles Cunliffe, and bass Daniel Vening.

“We are delighted to announce these five young singers of exceptional talent as Glyndebourne’s 2025 Jerwood Young Artists. They join a distinguished list of former Jerwood Young Artists: Rosie Aldridge, David Butt Philip, Huw Montague Rendall, Nardus Williams, Marvic Monreal, William Thomas and Michael Mofidian, to name a few,” said Steven Naylor, Director of Artistic Administration at Glyndebourne.

Fernandes made her professional debut in 2024 OperaFest Lisboa while Roper is the winner of the 2022 MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year competition, a recipient of the Marianne Falk Award, and the Joyce Budd Second Prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary for Young Singers. McKinney performed with English Touring Opera for its Autumn tour and Cunliffe was a finalist of the 67th Kathleen Ferrier Awards in 2024, and a Leeds Lieder Young Artist for 2022. Finally, Vening performed with the Garsington Opera and the Royal Academy Opera.
