Glimmerglass Festival Inspires Summer Art Exhibition ‘LIBRETTO: Contemporary Art Illuminating Opera’
By David SalazarA new salon-style gallery exhibition opening this summer at The American Hotel in Sharon Springs, New York draws its inspiration directly from the Glimmerglass Festival’s 2026 season.
Titled “LIBRETTO: Contemporary Art Illuminating Opera,” the exhibition was conceived and is guest-curated by Hilary Pierce, president of Art Collector’s Athenaeum, whose interest in the intersection of fine art and music drove the project’s central concept. Pierce was drawn to the breadth of imagery, culture, and time periods represented by Glimmerglass’s three summer productions including Mozart’s “Così fan tutte,” Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!”
The exhibition features works by Marvin Espy, Rebecca Smith Ford, Janis Goodman, Freya Grand, and Ram Sueno. Forty works are on view and available for purchase throughout the hotel and its guest rooms.
A gallery reception is scheduled for July 19. The exhibition runs June 17 through September 7, 2026.
