Conductor Giulio Cilona was awarded the 10th annual Ernst Von Schuch Conducting Prize.

The Kapellmeister of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Principal Guest Conductor of the Opéra National de Lorraine will be honored in a ceremony at the Semperoper Dresden on Nov. 24, 2025; the conductor recently debuted with the company in a production of “Die Zauberflöte” in September 2024.

“Cilona’s ability to work meticulously within the framework of the composition, develop finely chiseled soundscapes, and embody the music through expression, gestures, and words was outstanding. Both the audience and orchestra were deeply impressed by the innate authority, combined with experience and knowledge, with which the conductor clearly communicated and realized his vision of the composition,” said the jury who was impressed by the conductor’s final session with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gießesn.

The Prize was established in honor of the esteemed Austrian-Saxon conductor Ernst Edler von Schuch (1846-1914).
