Ginger Costa-Jackson & John Brancy Lead MasterVoices’s 2022-23 Season

Ted Sperling, Artistic Director of MasterVoices has announced details of the 81st season.

The 2022-23 season opens at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center with Sperling leading a concert staging of Bizet’s “Carmen “in its original Opéra Comique version. Mezzo-soprano Ginger Costa-Jackson heads the cast that also includes soprano Mikaela Bennett as Micaëla and baritone John Brancy as Escamillo. Sammi Cannold directs.

Performance Date: Oct. 25, 2022

The second performance will be “O How Good” at Central Synagogue. The program will include two beloved works of traditional Jewish liturgy, Ernest Bloch’s “Sacred Service” and Kurt Weill’s “Kiddush.” There will also be a world premiere of a new work by Israeli-American composer Daniel Rein, commissioned by MasterVoices. The performance features baritone Justin Austin, tenor Daniel Mutlu, who is also the Senior Cantor of Central Synagogue, and David Strickland, organist at Central Synagogue.

Performance Date: March 23, 2022

Gilbert and Sullivan’s Comic Opera “Iolanthe” ends the season. The performance will be held at Carnegie Hall.
