The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its upcoming performance of Puccini’s “La Bohème.”

The company announced that Jinxu Xiahou canceled the Oct. 3 performance due to an injury. As a result, Gianluca Terranova will perform the role of Rodolfo. 

Terranova has appeared at the Wiener Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Frankfurt Opera, the Los Angeles Opera, Savonlinna, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Amsterdam. This season he is set to perform at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste in “Aida” and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Atlanta Opera in productions of “Madama Butterfly.”

Terranova joins a cast that includes Aida Garifullina in the title role, Adrian Eröd, and Bryony Dwyer. Louis Langree conducts the production by Franco Zeffirelli.

This will be the final performance of the October run before it returns in December with Saimir Pirgu and Anita Hartig in the lead roles.
