Gianandrea Noseda Releases Statement Regarding National Symphony Orchestra
By Francisco SalazarFollowing the exit of the Washington National Opera, The National Orchestra’s Music Director Gianandrea Noseda has released a statement.
He said, “Music Belongs to everyone. I’m happy to be back in Washington D.C. with my beloved National Symphony Orchestra for four weeks of subscription concerts. The national Symphony Orchestra is your orchestra; it is part of the community in which you live and in, some way, part of your family. The music the NSO offers speak about you, your life your story, your dreams, and your aspirations, and at times accompanies you in difficult moments.”
He added, “Music nourishes the soul; it inspires through and gives voice to emotion. Your orchestra wishes to stay close to you, to bring you comfort and joy, to continue building a space of respect, dialogue, and empathy through music. we look forward to meeting you often, sharing music, and growing together once again.”
He concluded, “The NSO and I await you-doing what we know how to do best, making music.”
Noseda has not been vocal regarding the Kennedy Center and its take over. However, in a recent interview with the Times of London he did note that he had distanced himself from the entire situation and said, “We still programme our concerts with total freedom. We haven’t had any interference at all.” He also joked that the situation did not feel like Shostakovich working in the Soviet Union.
