The Getty Villa Museum will present “Play to Libretto: Sarah Ruhl’s ‘Eurydice’ on Feb. 2, 2020.

The reading of the stage place by Sarah Ruhl is part of the LA Opera’s “Eurydice Found,” an LA Festival dedicated to contextualizing the many aspects of the famed Greek myth of Orpheus and his wife Euridice.

In addition to a reading of the play, “Play to Libretto” will also feature a conversation with composer Matthew Aucoin on his creative process in creating an opera out of Ruhl’s play. Moreover, there will be performances of selections from the opera by members of the LA Opera’s Young Artist program.

“Eurydice” opens at the LA Opera on Feb. 1, 2020 and features Danielle De Niese and Joshua Hopkins in the lead roles.

In addition to “Eurydice,” the Getty Villa Museum will present “Cowboy Elektra” with the Rogue Artists Ensemble on Jan. 24, 25, and 26.
