George London Foundation to Resume Competition and Recital Series in 2022
By Logan MartellThe George London Foundation for Singers has announced two upcoming events which will mark their resumption of performances at New York’s Morgan Library and Museum.
First will be the finals of the 50th annual George London Foundation Competition. Originally scheduled for early 2021, the finals will now be held on February 25, 2022. The competition usually awards five finalists with a George London Prize for $10k, with the remaining finalists receiving Encouragement Awards for $1k each.
On April 24, the foundation’s Recital Series will continue with a recital from tenor Aaron Blake, who will be accompanied by Ken Noda. A winner of the 2017 George London Awards, Blake has appeared with New York City Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, and more.
“It was particularly painful to have to postpone the 50th anniversary event of our competition last season,” said the foundation’s president Nora London in a press release. “So next February, we will celebrate both the half-century mark of the George London Awards and what we hope will be the full revitalization of the concert and opera world.”
