The Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) is set to open its 50th Anniversary Season with Rossini’s final opera, “William Tell.”

The opera will be presented in a new staging co-directed and co-designed by Vita Tzykun and David Adam Moore, and conducted by BLO Music Director David Angus.

The work will be presented between Sept. 25 and Oct. 4 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre and will star George Gagnidze in the title role with Anya Matanovič (Mathilde), Konu Kim (Arnold), Nina Yoshida Nelsen (Hedwige), Brianna J. Robinson (Jemmy), Yeghishe Manucharyan (Rudolph), Hunter Enoch (Gessler), James Demler (Melchtal), Sergio Martinez (Walter), Morgan Mastrangelo (Ruodi) and Ilya Silchukou (Leuthold).

In a statement, BLO Artistic Director Nina Yoshida Nelsen said, “This is about a community uniting to fight for freedom against tyranny. William Tell is a patriot who chooses to fight back. At its heart, the opera asks what people are willing to risk for one another and for their freedom.”
