Tenor Gavan Ring will star in and produce Cork Opera House’s upcoming production of “La bohème” at the Cahersiveen Music and Arts Festival.”

On August 4, at the Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church in Cahersiveen, Co. Kerry audiences will enjoy Puccini’s masterpiece starring soprano Rachel Croash as Mimì and Ring as Rodolfo. Emma Nash sings Musetta, with Brendan Collins as Marcello, and supporting roles sang by Malachy Frame, Rory Dunne, David Howes, and Éadaoin O’Donoghue. The cast, which is directed by Conor Hanratty, is drawn largely from the “Cara O’Sullivan Associate Artist Programme,” a collective of opera singers brought together by in memory of the late Cork soprano. John O’Brien conducts.

Ring and Aisling Fitzgerald are co-producers. Of this experience Ring said “Obviously on a personal note, it’s hugely exciting. The first concert I produced and sang in for the Cahersiveen Music and Arts Festival was when I was 16 in 2004 – to think that 20 years later I’m producing and singing in a near full-scale production of La bohème is absolutely mind-blowing; a total pinch-me moment!”

Furthermore, this production will be the first time a full opera will be broadcast on a local radio station in Ireland.
