By David Salazar

Garsington Opera has announced that Artistic Director Douglas Boyd has extended his contract with the organization for five more years.

Additionally, the company will continue its partnerships with The Philharmonic Orchestra and The English Concert.

“I am so fortunate to work with the amazingly dedicated group of people who make up Garsington Opera,” Boyd said in an official press statement. “It will be an honor to continue to be part of the leadership team for the next five years. We have achieved so much over the last decade, and it has truly been a team effort.
Not least has been the partnership with two of the finest orchestras in the world, the Philharmonia and The English Concert, and I am delighted that they will be central to our artistic goals well into the future. Meanwhile, 2024 is a seminal moment for GO with the opening of Garsington Studios, which will create life changing opportunities for generations to come and provide us with the artistic environment to create world class opera.”

Boyd was named to the position of Artistic Director in 2012. The conductor and oboist is one of the founding members of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and was previously music director of the Manchester Camerata. He was also principal conductor of the Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur, music director of the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, principal guest conductor of the City of London Sinfonia, and principal guest conductor of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, among other positions.
