By Francisco Salazar

The Garsington Opera has announced a director change for “Rusalka.”

The company revealed that “due to ill health, director Michael Boyd has had to withdraw from the 2022 Season. As a result, Jack Furness will direct the opera and make his Garsington Opera debut.”

Artistic Director Douglas Boyd noted, “Michael is a wonderful artist, colleague, and friend and we all send him our love and wish him a speedy recovery. To direct ‘Rusalka,’ we are delighted to welcome Jack, a brilliant young director, to Garsington Opera and I look forward to working with him on this production.”

British stage director Furness is the founder and Artistic Director of Shadwell Opera and is a graduate of Cambridge University. He was also an Emerging Artist Director for the Scottish Opera during the 2015-16 season.

“Rusalka” opens on June 19 and is set to star Natalya Romaniw, Gerard Schneider, Musa Ngqungwana, Christine Rice, and Sky Ingram. The production runs until July 19, 2022.
