Santa Fe Opera has announced that Nicaraguan-American soprano Gabriella Reyes will take on the role of Musetta in the company’s upcoming new production of Puccini’s “La Bohème.” She will replace Kirsten MacKinnon, who “has withdrawn from the production for personal reasons,” according to the press release.

Reyes is a 2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions grand finalist. She made her Met debut as the High Priestess in “Aida,” followed by performances as the First Lady in “The Magic Flute” and Nella in “Gianni Schicchi.” She will return to the Met next season as Liù in “Turandot.”

The cast of “La Bohème” will also include Mario Chang as Rodolfo, Vanessa Vasquez in her company debut as Mimì, Zachary Nelson as Marcello, baritone Will Liverman in his company debut as Schaunard, bass Solomon Howard as Colline, and bass-baritone Dale Travis as Benoit/Alcindoro. The production will be directed by Mary Birnbaum, and Jader Bignamini will lead the orchestra.

Performances will run from Jun. 28 – Aug. 24, 2019.
