Gabriele Viviani Replaces Simon Keenlyside in Royal Opera House’s’ La Traviata’

Baritone Gabriele Viviani will replace Sir Simon Keenlyside in the role of Giorgio Germont in this evening’s presentation of “La Traviata” at the Royal Opera House, according to the company’s official website.

Viviani has been slated to take over the role of Giorgio Germont starting January 22, but was asked to jump in for today’s show at the last minute call. Viviani will join the cast that includes Hrachuhí Bassénz, Liparit Avetisyan, Germán E. Alcántara, Timothy Dawkins, Stephanie Wake-Edwards, Jeremy White, Andrés Presno and Sarah Pring.

Francesco Ivan Ciampa will conduct Richard Eyre’s production.

The run of “La Traviata” is set to continue on January 22, with two casts that include Dinara Alieva, Kristina Mkhitaryan, Ho-Yoon Chung, Rame Lahaj, Željko Lučić, and Gabriele Viviani. The winter run of “La Traviata” will end on February 1, and then continue in March with the cast that includes Aleksandra Kurzak, Frédéric Antoun, and George Petean.
