The Fundación Baluarte has announced that it has been forced to postpone “The Return of the Master” scheduled for Dec. 30, 2021, due to a COVID-19 outbreak amongst the artistic team.

“The Return of the Master” was supposed to revive the zarzuela “San Franco de Sena” by Emilio Arrieta, and was slated to star tenor Alejandro Roy and soprano Beatriz Díaz. Oliver Díaz was signed on to conduct the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra.

The Fundación Baluarte is examining the possibility to postpone the event and perform it instead during the 2022-23 season.

Spain is currently undergoing a massive COVID-19 wave, driven by both the Delta and Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variants. The country reported 214,619 new cases on Dec. 27 per the JHU. The current seven-day incidence in Spain stands at 1,214 despite its high vaccination rate.
