Fundação da Casa de Mateus & Teatro de Vila Real to Present ‘Acis & Galatea’

The Fundação da Casa de Mateus and Teatro de Vila Real in Portugal will present “Acis e Galatea” on Sept. 7, 2024.

The opera by Händel and librettist John Gay will be conducted by Ricardo Bernardes, leading the Mateus Baroque Orchestra, and directed by Nicolas Isasi.

Rodrigo Carreto stars as Acis while Mariana Castello-Branco takes on Galatea. Other cast members incldue Marcio Soares Holland as Damon, Fernando Araujo as Polyphemus, and Frederico Project as Coridon.

The performance of the work kicks off at 9:30 p.m. local time.

Per its official website, “The Casa de Mateus Foundation was established in 1970 by D. Francisco de Sousa Botelho de Albuquerque, with the donation for public service purposes of the architectural complex comprising the House, Chapel and Wine Cellars, a perimeter comprising historic gardens, orchards, vineyards and woodland, and an extensive estate comprising an archive, library and museum collections.”
