By David SalazarBaritone Mikael Horned is the recipient of the Friends of Drottningholm Theatre’s Opera Scholarship in 2021.
Horned has participated as a student in productions at the Royal Swedish Opera and Vadstena Academy. He is currently set to take on the role of Lesbo in a production of Händel’s “Agrippina” at Drottningholm.
“Mikael Horned is awarded the Friends’ Opera Scholarship 2021 for his desire to develop in the baroque repertoire with the support of internationally renowned teachers,” the board of the Friends of Drottningholm said in a press release. “Horned is educated at the Stockholm Academy of Opera and has already come a long way in his vocal development, not least through his ability to combine good technique with strong expression.”
The scholarship aims to support young artists who have completed a college education specializing in opera and hold an interest in repertory from the 1600-1700s.
