French Opera Companies Endorse Emmanuel Macron

By Francisco Salazar

In anticipation of the French election, many opera directors and companies are showing their support for Emmanuel Macron.

In a petition on change.org, arts leaders are calling on their followers to vote for Emmanuel Macron in the presidential run-off. Among the leaders from the opera world include Alexander Neef from the Paris Opéra, Louis Langrée from the Opéra Comique, Richard Brunel from Opéra national de Lyon, Valérie Chevalier from Opéra orchestre national de Montpellier Occitanie, Matthieu Dussouillez from the Opéra national de Lorraine, Nancy, Stéphane Lissner from the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, and Alain Perroux from the Opéra national du Rhin, Strasbourg.

The president runoff will be held on April 24 and Macron will be up against Marine Le Pen.

Candidates will not be allowed to campaign the day before the vote, or on election day itself.
