The French Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot said that the government has no idea regarding the reopening of the cultural venues.

“We understand that the culture sector is suffering,” said Bachelot. “Even in that case, it would be hazardous to reopen it, in the absence of the clear scientific evidence regarding the risk of infection in theaters and cinemas,” added Bachelot.

Bachelot has previously been opposed to reopening and closing venues as the epidemiological situation evolves. “Imagine that we reopened on Dec. 15, 2020, and then closed again on Jan 2 or 3, 2021… I believe that culture would have been murdered if we had done that,” concluded Bachelot.

The spokesman of the Palais Matignon Gabriel Attal confirmed that theaters, cinemas, and opera houses would not be reopened on Jan. 7 2021, as per the government’s plan.
