The Cincinnati Opera has announced its 2027 Summer Festival.

The season opens with “John Lewis: Good Trouble” by Maria Thompson Corley and Diana Solomon-Glover. The opera will star Freddie Ballentine, Kevin Short, Marietta Simpson, Victoria Okafor, Sirgourney Cook, Ron Dukes, Markel Reed, and Andrew Turner. Timothy Douglas serves as stage director and dramaturg, with Everett McCorvey, founder and music director of the American Spiritual Ensemble, conducts the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

The company will present “Viva Verdi!” celebrating the genius of the Italian composer with excerpts from “Rigoletto,” “La Traviata,” ‘Aida,” and “Il Trovatore,”

Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” will star Janai Brugger, Philip Addis, Lawson Anderson, Cadie J. Bryan, Megan Moore, Patrick Carfizzi, and Sarah Folsom. The new-to-Cincinnati production comes from Indiana University and is a co-production by Opéra de Montréal, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Opera Carolina. Lorenzo Passerini conducts the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Puccini’s “Turandot” will star Jessica Faselt, Matthew White, Kathryn Lewek, Donovan Singletary, and Kyle White. The opulent, new-to-Cincinnati production, designed by Allen Charles Klein and originally directed by Bliss Hebert, hails from Lyric Opera of Chicago and is a co-production of the Dallas Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and San Francisco Opera. Lorenzo Passerini conducts.

The company will present Studio Sessions in Music Hall’s Wilks Studio offering an artist-curated, up-close, and personal performance experience.
