Andermatt Music has announced its third annual “Goethe Days.”
This year’s theme is “Women’s stories and Goethe.” Soprano Franziska Heinzen along with pianist Benjamin Mead will present songs on “the eternal feminine,” focusing on different women characters in Goethe’s works, from to Gretchen to Suleika and Mignon, in musical settings by Schubert, Liszt, Wolf, and others. They are joined by Austrian actor Isabel Karajan who will recite assorted texts.
Later, there will be a podium discussion featuring German literature experts Barbara Naumann and Boris Previšić. Also planned is a special guided tour of Switzerland’s only permanent exhibition on Goethe in Switzerland, given by joint curator Margrit Wyder. Here, Karajan will introduce women connected with Goethe’s Gotthard travels and recite excerpts from his letters and other texts. At the close, Michael Schwyter will give a theatrical performance in the Crystal Cavern.
The 2024 installment of “Goethe Days” runs August 24 and 25.
