French conductor Francois-Xavier Roth has been accused of sexual assault and harassment.

According to a report by Le canard enchainé, seven musicians accused the conductor of sexual harassment, while one woman accused him of sexual assault.

In the report, it was stated that Roth sent seven musicians “unwanted messages” that included dick pics. According to Le canard, there was a letter from a member of the Gürzenich Orchestra that was sent to its managing director Stefan Englert, in which Roth is accused of sexually assaulting a female orchestra member.

Violinist Marie-Annick Nicolas, who was concertmaster of the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France, accused Roth of inviting her to a “virtual shower” and the former director of the Philharmonie de Paris, Laurent Bayle, confirmed to Le Canard that he had been informed by the city of Paris of the allegations against Roth in 2019.

Roth told the magazine, “If I have gone too far, I would like to apologize to those I may have hurt.”

The conductor was to have conducted at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées on May 22 but was replaced by Adrien Perruchon.
