Franco Fagioli, Francesca Aspromonte, Tim Mead Headline Teatro Real de Madrid’s ‘Achille in Sciro’

On Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the Teatro Real de Madrid will present the modern European premiere of Francesco Corselli and Pietro Metastasio’s “Achille in Sciro.”

The work will be conducted by Ivor Bolton with Mariame Clement directing a new production. Audiences will get a chance to experience the rare work via two casts with Tim Mead and Christopher Lowrey as Ulisse and Franco Fagioli and Jake Arditi as Achille and Pirra. Francesca Aspromonte and Francesca Lombardi Mazzuli will rotate as Deidama while Sabina Puertolas and Leonor Bonilla will take on the role of Teagene. Tenors Kenneth Tarver and David Alegret will appear as Arcade with Juan Sancho and Krystian Adam as Nearco and Andrea Mastroni and Grigory Shkarupa as Licomede.

The production will be broadcast live via ARTE TV. There will be a total of eight performances with the last slated for March 27, 2020.

“Achille in Sciro” had its world premiere in 1744 to celebrate the wedding of Infanta María Teresa Rafaela to the Dauphin Louis de France. It follows Achille’s life prior to the Trojan wars.
