Francisco Coll No Longer Conducting ‘Enemigo del Pueblo’ at the Teatro Real

By Francisco Salazar

Composer Francisco Coll has announced that he will no longer conduct his opera “Enemigo del pueblo” at the Teatro Real.

The composer took to social media and said, “Unfortunately, due to a recent minor transient ischemic attack, I must withdraw from conducting my opera ‘Enemigo del pueblo’ at the Teatro Real in Madrid. I am deeply saddened not to be able to lead this production as planned and I am immensely grateful for the understanding and support of the entire team at the Teatro Real. I am grateful to Christian Karlsen, who has generously agreed to conduct in my place, and I wish him, the musicians, and the cast all the best for the performances. I would like to mention that I am recovering well and hope to return to the podium once my recovery is complete.”.

“Enemigo del pueblo” made its world premiere at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and will make its Madrid premiere on Feb. 12, 2026. The production will be directed by Àlex Rigola and will star Marta Fontanals-Simmons, José Antonio López, Moisés Marín, Brenda Rae, and Isaac Galán.
