Francesco Meli has tested positive for COVID-19 and as a result, has been forced to cancel his final performance of “Aida” on Oct. 19.

The tenor confirmed the news on social media, stating, “Dear friends, I wanted to let you know that I’ve tested positive for Covid and so tomorrow I won’t be singing in the final concert performance of ‘Aida’ at La Scala. I want to reassure you all that I have no symptoms and I’m feeling well. I’ll be spending my time in quarantine at my home in Genoa, keeping strictly to all the health regulations. I’ll keep you up to date and I’m sure I’ll be back singing very soon.”

As a result, Jonas Kaufmann will replace Meli in the performance, which will star Saioa Hernandez, Anita Rachvelishvili, and Amartuvshin Enkhbat. Riccardo Chailly conducts.

The tenor is the latest performer to test positive following Anna Netrebko, Pumeza Matshikiza, Placido Domingo, Nadine Sierra, Ildar Abdrazakov, and Štefan Margita, among others.

We wish Meli a speedy recovery.
