Francesco Meli, Marina Rebeka, Angel Blue, Nicole Car, Carolina López Moreno, Klaus Florian Vogt & Ryan Speedo Green Lead Semperoper Dresden’s 2026-27 Season

The Semperoper Dresden has announced its 2026-27 season.

Premieres

The opera premieres begin with Verdi’s “Un ballo in maschera,” a new production by Angela Denoke in her Semperoper directorial debut, conducted by Daniele Gatti and Stefano Tanzanian. Francesco Meli, Giorgio Berrugi, Nicole Car, Yulia Matochkina, Rosalia Cid, George Petean, and Lodovico Filippo Ravizza.

Performance Dates: Oct. 4, 2026-May 21, 2027


Torsten Rasch’s “Die wunderbaren Jahre” will star Dalia Medovnikov, Valentin Ruckebier, Alexandra Sagurna, and Christina Baader. Christian Blex conducts the production by Nora Bussenius.

Performance Dates: Oct. 16, 2026-July 6, 2027


Lehár’s “The Merry Widow” will be directed by Dirk Schmeding and conducted by Killian Farrell. The production will star Erica Eloff, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Markus Marquardt, Magdalena Lucjan, Mario Lerchenberger, and  Jürgen Müller. 

Performance Dates: Nov. 29, 2026-Jan. 31, 2027


Martinů’s “The Greek Passion” will be directed by Elisabeth Stöppler and will be conducted by Erik Nielsen. The cast of this first Dresden production of the piece includes Pavol Breslik, Marjukka Tepponen, Birger Radde, Markus Marquardt, Martin-Jan Nijhof, Gerald Hupach, Danylo Matviienko, David RoyMario Lerchenberger, Gerald Hupach, and Simeon Esper. 

Performance Dates: March 13-April 11, 2027


Jens Joneleit’s “Pech, Marie!” will be presented with Marlene Metzger, Theo Claveles, Christiane Hossfeld, Michal Doron, and Bosse Vogt. Niklas Benjamin Hoffmann conducts the production by Benjamin Arnold. 

Performance Dates: April 3-14, 2027


Paër’s “Leonora” will be directed by Andrea Moses with Giulio Cilona conducting. The cast will include Peter Kellner, Jasmin Delfs, Louise McClelland Jacobsen, Simeon Esper, Jonah Hoskins, and Anton Beliaev.

Performance Dates: April 24-May 20, 2027


Samuel Penderbayne’s “Subotnik” will star Ekaterina Chayka-Rubinstein and Henriette Zahn. Theresa von Halle directs. 

Performance Dates: June 5-15, 2027


Eva-Maria Höckmayr directs a new production of Wagner’s “Rienzi, the Last of the Tribunes.” Klaus Florian Vogt stars alongside Andreas Bauer Kanabas, Sinéad Campbell Wallace, and Catriona Morison, under the musical direction of Patrick Hahn.

Performance Dates: June 26-July 10, 2027


Repertoire

Three casts will be showcased in Bizet’s “Carmen” with Caterina Piva singing all performances. She will be joined first by Attilio Glaser, Marjukka Tepponen, and Krzysztof Bączyk. Later performances will include Matthew Polenzani, Louise McClelland Jacobsen, Neven Crnić, and Tomislav Mužek. Lorenzo Passerini conducts.

Nino Rota’s “Der Florentiner Hut” will star Piotr Buszewski, Alexander Grassauer, Maire Therese Carmack, Neven Crnić, Valerie Eickhoff, Danylo Matviienko, Dalia Medovnikov, Martin-Jan Nijhof, Jongwoo Hong, and Gerald Hupach. Daniele Squeo conducts. 

Performance Dates: Sept. 3-11, 2026


Bernstein’s “Trouble in Tahiti” will star Winona Martin, Steffan Lloyd Owen, Natasha Gesto, Timothy Oliver, and Joseph Parrish. Ingunn Korsgård Hagen conducts.

Natalya Romaniw and Aleksandra Kurzak star in Puccini’s “Tosca” alongside SeokJong Baek, Riccardo Massi, and Gevorg Hakobyan. John Fiore conducts.

Albert Lortzing’s “Der Wildschütz” will star Philipp Jekal, Sabine Brohm, Maximilian Schmitt, Maria Perlt-Gärtner, Ekaterina Chayka-Rubinstein, Georg Zeppenfeld, Louise McClelland Jacobsen, and Gerald Hupach. Christoph Gedschold conducts. 

Performance Dates: Oct. 24-Nov. 3, 2026


Bosse Vogt, Christian Venzke, David Whitley, Madina Frey, Gerald Hupach, Bettina Weichert, Annika Steinkamp, and Janik Oelsch star in “Blues Brothers.” Max Renne conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7-20, 2026


Two casts will headline Verdi’s “Don Carlo.” The first cast will star Georg Zeppenfeld, Angel Blue, Stephen Costello, Yulia Matochkina, Boris Pinkhasovich, and Taras Shtonda. 

The second cast includes John Relyea, Marina Rebeka, Joshua Guerrero, Yulia Matochkina, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Morris Robinson. 

Timur Zangiev and Marcus Merkel conduct.

Leonard Evers’ “Gold!” will star Annike Debus, Stefan Köcher, and Lola Mlačnik.
