Francesco Meli & Javier Camarena Headline Top 5 Operas To See This Weekend – International

This weekend showcases popular works with one dominating Spain. There is a popular zarzuela with two important rising stars and the start of a new season. Check it out.

La Traviata – Teatro Cafam, Colombia

The Fundación Arte Lírico en Coproducción con el Ministerio de Cultura de España will begin a four-week long season of opera and Zarzuela. Verdi’s masterpiece opens the season for two performances. The production is set to be conducted by Luis Fernando Perez and directed by Federico Figueroa.

Aida – Teatro La Fenice, Aida

Francesco Meli sings the role of Radamès for the first time in Italy having garnering critical acclaim. He is joined by Roberta Mantegna in her role debut and company debut, Irene Roberts, Roberto Frontali, and Riccardo Zanellato.  Riccardo Frizza conducts the classic production by Mauro Bolognini.

The Pearl Fishers – Gran Teatre del Liceu, Spain

Ekaterina Bakanova, John Osborn and Michael Adams sing the first cast of Bizet’s popular work with conductor Yves Abel. The second cast is head by Dmitry Korchak, Olga Kulchynska, and Borja Quiza. The first cast can be seen on Sunday while the second cast on Sunday.

The Pearl Fishers – Bilbao Opera, Spain

Javier Camarena brings his acclaimed interpretation of Nadir alongside Lucas Meachem and Maria Jose Moreno. The production is set to be conducted by Francesco Ivan Ciampa in a production by legendary director  Pier Luigi Pizzi.

Doña Francisquita – Teatro de la Zarzuela, Spain

The popular zarzuela by Vives is sung by Sabina Puertolas and Ismael Jordi, two rising stars in the opera world. Óliver Díaz conducts the production by Lluís Pasqual, which also stars Ana Ibarra and Vicenc Esteve.
