The Teatro Mailbran is set to present Respighi’s “Maria Egiziaca.”

The opera, which is presented as part of the Teatro La Fenice’s 2023-24 season will open on March 8 and run through March 16, 2024.

The production will be by Pier Luigi Pizzi and will be conducted by Manlio Benzi. Francesca Dotto leads a cast that includes Vincenzo Costanzo, Simone Alberghini, Luigi Morassi, Ilaria Vanacore, and William Corrò.

The opening performance will be streamed on Rai Radio3.

In a statement, Pizzi noted, “Maria is a prostitute, who did not spare herself in her young years, but who on the road to Damascus feels a divine call and wants to redeem herself. So she undertakes a journey to Jerusalem to take upon herself the sacrifice of Christ.”
