Former Director of Teatro Colón Darío Lopérfido Dies at 61

Former director of the Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires Darío Lopérfido has died at the age of 61.

Lopérfido died at the age of 61 on feb. 27, 2026 of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Born on June 5, 1964 in Buenos Aires, Lopérfido gained recognition as a political figure, becoming a the Secretary of Culture and Media in 1999 under Fernando de la Rúa. In 2015, he was named Minister of Culture in Buenos Aires and in that same year he became president of Ópera Latinoamérica. However, he left the position following protests.

Between February and December of 2015, Lopérfido was also given the position of Artistic Director of the Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires.

He was involved in many scandals including the Panamá Papers, as he appeared in papers that detailed financial and attorney client information for more than 214,488 offshore entities.
