Former Artistic Director of the LA Opera Dies

LA Opera has announce the death of its former Artistic Administrator Robin Thompson.

In a statement the company said, “Robin Thompson served as Artistic Administrator during the first decade of the company’s existence. Playing a key role in the company’s senior leadership under the tenure of Founding General Director Peter Hemmings, Robin helped shape the young company into what it has become today.”

The obituary continued, “In 1996, he left Los Angeles to become the Director of Artistic Administration at the New York City Opera, where he remained for over a decade. He also served as Artistic Adviser of Virginia Opera (2010 to 2013) and Artistic Consultant to the American Symphony Orchestra in New York City.

In his earlier career, he worked extensively as a stage director mounting productions for San Francisco Opera, L’Opéra de Montréal, Santa Fe Opera and New York City Opera.”
