Florida Grand Opera to Stream ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’
By Logan MartellFlorida Grand Opera has announced that its Sunday Matinee for this week will be Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor.”
This performance, recorded from the company’s 2017-18 season, stars Anna Christy in the title role, with Joshua Guerrero as Edgardo, Trevor Scheunemann as Enrico, and Chaz’men Williams-Ali as Arturo, with Alexander Polianichko conducting.
Christy has garnered great acclaim for her interpretation of Lucia, having performed the role in 2008 with the English National Opera, and in 2013 with Canadian Opera Company, with Richard Ouzounian of The Toronto Star noting, “I had nothing but admiration for Anna Christy’s Lucia, not just for the pain she endured in the evening’s first half, but for the way she turned her legendary mad scene into a piece of searing dramatic emotion, rather than a mere display of extraordinary vocal technique (which Christy also possesses.)”
The stream will be held July 5 at 2:00pm EDT on the company’s YouTube channel, where viewers can also participate in a live opera chat with members of the cast and crew. Previous entries in the Sunday Matinee series include Menotti’s “The Consul,” Bellini’s “Norma,” Verdi’s “Nabucco,” Verdi’s “Un ballo in maschera,” and Catan’s “Florencia en el Amazonas.”
