
Florida Grand Opera Names New Music Director
By David SalazarFlorida Grand Opera has named Pablo Mielgo as its new Music Director.
Mielgo, who has worked with such conducting legends as Sir Colin Davis, Daniel Barenboim, James Conlon, and Claudio Abbado, will join recently appointed General Director & CEO Maria Todaro in pushing the company into a new direction. During his tenure, he, in collaboration with Todaro, will lead the creation of a new resident orchestra for the company.
“Bringing Pablo on board is part of a larger strategy to restore FGO to its rightful place on the international stage,” said Todaro per an official press release. “He shares our belief that a great opera company must be built upon a strong and unified orchestra. Together, we will shape an institution that uplifts singers, inspires audiences, and honors our rich past while moving boldly into the future.”
Mielgo has held the position of Music Director of the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, one of the leading ensembles in Spain. He has also led the Symphony of the Americas.
