Florentine Opera Company Cancels Fall ‘Rigoletto’

By Francisco Salazar

The Florentine Opera Company has postponed its 2020 production of Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”

The company announced that due to the COVID-19 crisis the opera will be rescheduled for Oct. 8 and 10, 2021 with the originally scheduled cast that includes Todd Thomas in the title role, Jessica Jones, Scott Quinn, Alan Higgs, and Olivia Vote.

As a result, the first production of the season will be “Little Mahagony” in February.

The Florentine Opera Company is the latest opera company to cancel its fall season due to the ongoing pandemic. Among the many companies to have already canceled initial plans are the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, and San Francisco Opera.
