Film Festival auf dem Wiener Rathausplatz to Screen “Manon Lescaut’ Starring Anna Netrebko
By Francisco SalazarOn July 28, 2024, the Wiener Staatsoper is set to present Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” at the Film Festival auf dem Wiener Rathausplatz.
The recording, filmed in November 2023, will be screened at 9:15 and showcases a production by Robert Carsen conducted by Jader Bignamini.
Anna Netrebko stars in the title role alongside tenor Joshua Guerrero as Des Grieux. Davide Luciano and Evgeny Solodovnikov round out the cast.
When the production was revived back in November critics raved about Netrebko’s interpretation of the title role stating “her Act II ‘In quelle trine morbide’ which was achingly sad and exquisitely phrased ending with a floated ‘d’amor!’ of absolute perfection” and “Netrebko brought a wealth of expression to her climactic heart-wrenching ‘Sola, perduta, abbandonata’ which remained – probably due to Carsen – more of a resurrection than a farewell to life.”
Netrebko is known for her interpretation of “Manon Lescaut” having performed it at the Metropolitan Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and Salzburg Festival.
