Filarmonica della Scala Cancels European Tour Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

The Filarmonica della Scala has announced the cancellation of its European tour with Maestro Riccardo Chailly.

The tour included performances in Alicante on Jan. 25, Madrid on Jan. 26, Barcelona on Feb. 27, ​​and at the Philharmonie in Paris on Jan. 28 and 29, 2022. Per an official press release, the tour has been canceled due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19 and especially the prominence of the new and aggressive Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant.

Spain and France are both undergoing massive COVID-19 waves driven by both the Delta and Omicron variants. The seven-day incidence in Spain currently stands at 1,800, while the incidence in France is 2,400.

The incidence in Italy is at 1,600, and rising as all three countries log over 100,000 COVID-19 cases per day.
