The Festival Puccini has organized a concert in three parts entitled “Puccini in Lockdown.”

The concert, which is set to be showcased on May 1, 4, & 8, will be streamed on the Festival Puccini’s social media platforms.

The first part on May 1 will showcase two orchestras, the musicians of the Orchestra del Festival Puccini and the Orchestra della Toscana and the festival’s chorus in Puccini’s Humming chorus from “Madama Butterfly.” Conducted by Gianna Fratta, the chorus members will sing with face masks representing the times of  COVID-19. In total the orchestras will feature 50 musicians and 19 chorus members.

On May 4, Soprano Valeria Sepe will sing “O Mio Babbino” from “Gianni Schicchi” and on May 8 Amadi Lagha will perform the aria ” Firenze è come un albero fiorito” from “Gianni Schicchi.”

All performances will be streamed at 12 p.m. Italian Time.

President of the Puccini Foundation Maria Laura Simonetti stated that the concert was done as way to connect with the world in this difficult moment and showcase emotions that only music can.

Editing for the videos was done by Luca Bimbi with special thanks to the Orchestra della Toscana, Artistic director Giorgio Battistelli, General director Franco Moretti, and Musical Director Alberto Veronesi.
