Festival Opera Announces 2023 Summer Slate

Walnut Creek’s Festival Opera has announced its summer season.

First up is “Opera in the Park I” which will feature Festival Opera artists including soprano Aisha Campbell, mezzo-soprano Dalyte Kodzis, countertenor Matheus Coura, tenor Michael Foreman, and bass-baritone Matthew Lovell, bass-baritone as they present popular operas, Broadway favorites, and works from the Great American Songbook. will be accompanied by pianist Chun Mei Wilson.

This performance will take place at Orinda Community Park.

Performance Date: June 22, 2023

 Next up is “Opera in the Park 2,” featuring more greatest hits with pianist Chun Mei Wilson. The company will perform at its home base in Walnut Creek, CA.

Performance Date: August 6, 2023 

The company will then perform “Carmen” with Michael Mohammed directing and Robert Mollicone conducting. The opera will star Taylor Raven, Hope Briggs, Dane Suarez, and Young Kwang Yoo.

This is the second time the company presents Bizet’s famed work.

“It is with great pride Festival Opera celebrates its 32nd anniversary season with a refreshed, contemporary interpretation of Bizet’s iconic work,Carmen.’ I’m especially pleased to present a cast of rising, highly talented opera stars in such a collaborative stage production that will surely resonate with Bay Area audiences,” said General Director Zachary Gordin.

Performance Date: August 18 & 20, 2023

Rounding out the season will be a “Costume Ball & Gala.”
